The entrances to the condominium tower and adjacent townhouses are located on the roof of a parkade. For years, the predominantly elderly residents have dealt with slip hazards on the original (and poorly draining) concrete rooftop.
The design of the new rooftop combined functionality with aesthetics: using pavers on pedestals, a new patio was created, which allowed drainage to occur beneath the surface. The pavers also eliminated the need for the former steps, making the townhouses more accessible. Generous planting areas were integrated into the rooftop, reducing the amount of surface water run off and turning the former concrete deck into a lively garden space. Residents now enjoy this communal space with annual garden parties being a highlight of the summer.
